A Day in Paradise at Blue Indigo Yoga Retreat
Waking up at Blue Indigo Yoga Retreat feels like a gentle embrace of serenity and purpose. Despite not being a morning person, I rise full of energy, ready to immerse myself in everything this magical place offers.
The day begins with a tranquil meditation session, guided by Jan, the owner of this retreat. As I step into the practice room, the atmosphere is already serene, with soft sunlight filtering through the windows. Everyone is seated on the ground, preparing for the session. I grab my pillow, join the group, and settle in. The soothing sound of a gong signals the start, and under Jan's calming guidance, I dive deep into myself, letting time slip away unnoticed. About an hour later, I emerge with a sense of peace and readiness for the day ahead.
After a quick morning routine, the resonant sound of the gong echoes again, calling us to breakfast. This ritual, I’ve learned, marks all meals and activities here. The food table is a feast for the senses, laden with vibrant fruits, homemade peanut butter, jams, pancakes, and a variety of vegetarian delights. We gather around a large outdoor table, sharing stories and laughter as we savor every bite. Once my plate is washed, I retreat to a hammock to relax, enjoying the soft morning breeze while waiting for the first yoga class at 10 a.m.
The hours pass effortlessly, and soon the gong signals it’s time for yoga. The session begins with meditation and the resonant chanting of “OM,” setting the tone for a harmonious practice. The class progresses from gentle stretches to more dynamic sequences. While some poses are challenging, the teacher’s clear guidance ensures everyone moves with confidence. By the end, my body feels invigorated, and my mind is clear.
Lunchtime at 12 brings another spread of wholesome vegetarian dishes. After enjoying the delicious meal, I indulge in a midday nap, followed by a refreshing swim in the pool. The water glistens under the warm sun, and I find myself chatting with other guests, sharing stories and laughter.
The gong calls again, this time for aerial yoga. Entering the practice room, I’m greeted by colorful swings suspended from the ceiling. The session starts with a warm-up, engaging all the muscles we’ll need. As we move into more advanced poses, I surprise myself with what my body can achieve. With the teacher’s encouragement and guidance, I find myself floating, hanging upside down, and experiencing the joy of weightlessness.
Afterward, I take a moment to rest by the pool, basking in the satisfaction of trying something new. At 5 p.m., the day’s final workshop begins: a guided breathing session. It’s a transformative experience, as I discover how much emotion and energy can be unlocked through conscious breathing. The session leaves me in awe, feeling both light and deeply connected to myself.
As the sun sets, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, we gather to watch this daily spectacle. Cameras click, and quiet conversations flow as the day winds down. Dinner at 7 p.m. is another communal affair, with the table once again brimming with flavorful dishes. We share our day’s experiences, exchange travel tales, and laugh together, building bonds that feel timeless.
The evening ends with a casual card game, full of jokes and friendly competition. As the night deepens, I reflect on the day’s moments—each one a gift. This retreat, far removed from the chaos of the material world, has given me a sense of gratitude and peace.
I drift to sleep with a smile, eager to wake up and embrace another beautiful day at Blue Indigo Yoga Retreat.
